The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature introductory massage sessions, descriptions of upcoming Love2Masage classes which are the newest addition to AMA’s education program, samplings of fragrant massage oils, a preview of an instructional therapeutic massage DVD and formation of a wellness “Meetup” group. Music, wine and appetizers will be provides to add to the festivities. ###
Julie Baxley, a licensed massage therapist and instructor was motivated to develop the Love2Massage Couple’s Massage program after meeting author John Gray. “As John acquainted me with the scientific data on male and female stress hormones in Why Mars & Venus Collide, I recognized the struggles couples have coping with stress today and the toll it is taking on romantic relationships,” said Baxley. “Our Couples Massage classes combine practical massage techniques with the expert relationship advice of MarsVenus to help couples navigate those challenges.”
Is it healing or romance? Baxley’s answer is “It is one and the same.” One former student, for example, surprised his wife by bringing her to the class blindfolded. She didn’t know what to expect. He later wrote that he and his wife left the class totally relaxed ‘with new healing touch skills that have deepened our romantic relationship.’”
Baxley, has worked for Montage Spa in Laguna Beach, Glen Ivey Hot Springs, and has taught couples massage in community centers and for local church couples retreats. Baxley, a former professional actress and graduate of California State University, Long Beach, in theater arts, provides “edutainment” in her classes. “Participants laugh and have fun as our instructors teach massage techniques using humor and music,” said Baxley, who portrays the character, Dr. Romance-Speaks.
