COOL ROOM ENTERTAINMENT GETS ‘BIG FAT’ DIVERSE BREAK

It’s the first feature production for the new indie company.

Cool Room Entertainment, a maverick indie production upstart, is in-development with hit comedy filmmaker Joel Zwick on their first feature film, ‘Phantom of the Apollo’.  “Our mantra is Diverse Cinema”, said Teo, Cool Room’s president.  “We are a minority film company who’s not looking to make a minority film, which is next to impossible to do with the big studios in Hollywood.  If you look at Mr. Zwick’s amazing body of work in television and film, he’s known for diversity and for making stars of the unknown. I can’t think of a more perfect fit for us or this project.”

Though history is being made daily as Black, Latino, Asian and Hip-hop subcultures become better understood and recognized worldwide, only a handful of minority actors and filmmakers are ever given the opportunity to break movie stereotypes and expectations to remain underdogs.

With ‘projects in progress’ like the female prisoner boxing drama, Proud Mary and the 3D animated parallel-universe action film and videogame, Gravewalker, CRE is hoping to help usher in a distinct change.  “The idea of Gravewalker harmoniously unifies various different cultures and lifestyles to battle a different kind of enemy.” says Teo.

‘Phantom of the Apollo’, a multi-racially cast project, will tell the funny story of a naïve man who travels from Harlem, Georgia to Harlem, New York to find his estranged father and unwittingly wreaks havoc in the community once he meets and attempts to woo the woman of his dreams.
