Author Challenges Conventional Thought on Obesity Newly released book is not for the obese

It succinctly presents what is available, what has not and will not work, and examines the various brutalities of obesity, including personal cost, economic cost, societal attitudes, and future ramifications to the nation, providing a candid analysis of the state of obesity in American society and the grave consequences that everyone will suffer if our social attitudes do not change. Obesity necessitates speculation about the future of the nation in regards to a rapidly increasing obese majority in the U.S., a majority that votes.

The Big, Bad, O asserts that obesity is a national problem, one person at a time, with individual responsibility. Hemway claims no industry or government agency is responsible for creating or solving the obesity epidemic. The Big, Bad, O documents America’s increasing acceptance of obesity as a norm and warns of the dangers to America’s health, well being, and the devastating financial impacts resulting from catering to an obese society.

Hemway introduces a number of thought provoking concepts: Cancer victims, heart attack victims, and those struck by lightning have a better survival rate than the obese in recovery. If even 30% of the obese stopped eating junk food today, the American economy would crash. We are approaching the point of no return; it is time for America to choose and act; taking no action is a costly consequential action. As the government legislates against childhood obesity, the polarization between the fat and the fit will continue to intensify; the War Between the Weights has begun.

A recent review by Tracy Roberts states, “The Big Bad O: The Brutality of Obesity is a definite must read. The information provided is well researched and the statistics and facts provided will not only cause alarm, but will make you reflect on your own perceptions of obesity and how it affects every single American. Told from the heart, with an important mission to educate politicians, families, educators, medical professionals, and every American, Hemway emphasizes the need to take action instead of worrying about being politically correct. It is an honest, well presented, and personal book that will hopefully inspire change.”

Featured in a recent issue of Women’s World (Is Yeast Making You Fat? 9/11/07), Hemway, obese from age 10-50, lost 186 pounds without Bariatric surgery and has maintained the loss for over 6 years. Hemway’s first book, Beauty and the Yeast Beast is in its second printing. Hemway is a former public school teacher and district superintendent.
